About the Director

Dr. Benjamin Boesl was born outside Chicago, IL but grew up in South Florida. He received his Bachelors (’04), Masters, and PhD (’09) in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Florida, where as a graduate student he had a joint appointment in the Center for Advanced Composites and the UF Tribology Laboratory. After graduation, he spent three years as an ORISE/ORAU Post Doctorate Researcher at the US Army Research Laboratory in Aberdeen, Maryland investigating the dynamic properties of 3D woven composite structures (among other interests). Dr. Boesl is currently an Assistant Professor in the Mechanical and Materials Engineering Department at Florida International University where he specializes in in situ mechanical testing and advanced materials design. He also serves as the Assistant Director of the Advanced Materials Engineering Research Institute (AMERI).

Dr. Boesl is married to his lovely wife, Lindsey, and has a son (Max), with another son on the way before the new year.
